GLPS - General Load Planning System for ShipsGLPS is a Windows based load planning system for unit carrying ships. GLPS is a tool for achieving maximised utilisation of a transportation system and contains all relevant components needed in a load planning system. However, the final design of each of these is customised in order to meet the specific requirements of a customer. The basic components of the system are:
GeneralToday all available tools in a transport system must be utilised in a correct and smooth way. Therefore GLPS is designed with functions tailor-made for the reality in which it is used. GLPS can either be used by a shore based cargo planner for one or several ships or by a planner on board a ship. The basic purpose with the system is to enable easy planning of various load conditions and cargo combinations to make it possible to utilise the ships in an efficient way. The load planning is based on cargo data received from a booking system or manually inserted data. GLPS displays graphical descriptions of the ship's cargo areas as well as tanks and storage areas. GLPS generates various types of reports, which comply with the need among concerned parties. The reports are printed optionally in colour or in black and white. By means of simple drag and drop functions units are moved to the ship from booking lists or shifted between positions on board the ship. The content of the various tanks can be altered by manual input or by an interface to a tank gauging system. All weight changes generate new calculations of trim and stability. Warnings are displayed in case limit values required by authorities or specified by the operator, are exceeded. CommunicationIn order to handle integration between GLPS and shore-based systems, communication routines are built up around a mailing system. Data transmission can be done optionally via mobil telephones or satellites. The operator selects the most suitable method from time to time. Communication with other GLPS based systems is made by easy available functions. Load planning |

The source of information to any cargo planning system is the cargo data information. GLPS can handle such data on different levels:
Since there are different needs and requirements with respect to load planning, the system enables placing of the cargo on the load plan in the following ways: |

Because of the flexibility, GLPS also leaves room for individual working techniques. SummaryGLPS can be used for the following tasks:
HardwareGLPS requires Windows 95, Windows 98 or Windows NT with a Pentium II processor, a 17' Super VGA colour screen and a colour printer. For communication, an Internet connection is needed. CustomisationGLPS is built up in modules in order to enable flexibility and customisation. This makes it possible to meet the specific requirements of different users. Because of the modularity of GLPS it can be adjusted to different types of ships such as:
